This is Sali, the LSW posting for Yaakov. Yaakov is recovering from a stoke that he had about a month ago. Thank you all so very much for your good wishes, kind words and generous donations. We very much appreciate all! Here is a Purim cartoon. Yaakov is working hard at his physiotherapy, just as the soldiers in the cartoon are runnung in circles. We are hoping for a better year. Here is a bit of an update. Yaakov has been able to do a few cartoons while he is in the rehabilitation facility that he is posting on JNS.org He is still extremely weak and not able to talk very well. I bought him a new, HP 17 inch laptop and succeeded after lots of work with our computer guy, of putting Photoshop on it, along with a few other programs that he needs. He is able to write and draw the cartoon, when he has the energy to follow the news, but even with the new computer, the Photoshop manipulation is hard for him. We have a graphic design friend who is helping to do this for him most of the time. Other times, it falls on me to help, and I am not very good at it unfortunately. Also, now that I have been using Yaakov's big computer at home, I see that the monitor is terrible. He never complained but it is a TV and not a real monitor and the resolution is terrible and sometimes the screen goes yellow or green instead of white. I have our computer guy looking for a big used monitor. But until Yaakov will be home, it is not an urgent priority. Yaakov is in a good mood although impatient to come home. He is always in a good mood, as opposed to me. :) We wish you much joy, and prosperity, and happiness, and health with your family and friends. We are looking forward to a better year ahead, with more Dry Bones cartoons, and to all the hostages being released. The situation here in Israel changes daily. It looks like the fighting could start again soon. Wishing you all good things for you and your family. Kirschen Hospitalized
/>Sali, the LSW here, Yaakov had a stroke almost 2 weeks ago. His speech and left side were affected. He is very weak and can barely move his left arm, hand and leg. His speech is very slow and mumbled and he is winded. His brain is ok. He was in the hospital for 5 days and now is in a rehabilitation facility here in Kfar Saba where we live. But he is very strong willed and very dedicated to his life's work of Dry Bones, which appears daily in JNS.Org. Yesterday, he was actually able to write and draw a cartoon, and I am trying to put up the blog posting. He will probably be there for a month or a bit more. I have lent him my laptop computer and I am trying to use his big computer instead. We spent 2 days trying to put photoshop on my laptop and finally succeeded. He writes and sketches his cartoon on a piece of paper and then scans it into photoshop and manipulates it and colors it etc. We spent 4 hours doing that in photoshop, which I also do not really know how to use. Also, the interface uses tiny tiny typeface which is really hard for us old people to see and read. We used his camera for a scanner.
Yaakov is amazing. He can barely move, or talk, but is doing the cartoon, He needs to do it for his brain therapy and therapy for his manual dexterity, and it is his passion and life's work. And it gives him a very good incentive to keep going. It is such a weird talent. But he has been doing it almost daily since January 1973.
The photoshop part is still hard, but getting better.
He has still his amazing ability to think up and write and draw the cartoon, but the rest is super hard. He is very very weak and almost cannot move.
I stayed overnight at the hospital with him, and I still have not recovered from the lack of sleep as I am old too. He turns 87 in a few weeks and I am 78.
You are welcome to pray for him, if you do that sort of thing, his mother's name was Molly.
I am going to try to buy him a bit larger laptop and and maybe a portable scanner. Here is the cartoon that he did yesterday.
